Memorial Services for Rachel Bickerstaff, 85, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 S. Eisenhower Dr., Junction City, KS. Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery at Wakeeney, KS. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mrs. Bickerstaff passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School, 630 S. Eisenhower Dr., Junction City, KS 66441.
Born December 11, 1921 in Trego County, Kansas, near Wakeeney, KS, Rachel was the daughter of Henry and Magdalena (Fabrizius) Dietz. She graduated from Wakeeney High School with the class of 1940. She married Charles Sardis Bickerstaff on May 16, 1945 at Olympia, Washington. He survives of the home. They moved to Junction City in May, 1966. Mrs. Bickerstaff worked in Civil Service from 1965-1983 and was a Secretary for the Chaplains at Fort Riley for 15 years.
Mrs. Bickerstaff was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran's Women's Missionary League, Lutheran Layman League and the American Legion Auxiliary National Association.
Mrs. Bickerstaff was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 brother, Howard H. Dietz and 4 sisters, Martha M. Youngs, Esther E. Deines, and Ruth Dietz and Mary Annette Dietz both in infancy. She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Marge Dietz.
She is survived by one Daughter; Constance Sue Collins of Ben Wheeler, TX, two Sons; Charles Ludwig Bickerstaff of Illinois and Henry Martin Bickerstaff of Alva, OK, five Grandchildren, five Great-Grandchildren, two Great-Great-Grandchildren, three Brothers; Milton L. Dietz of Wakeeney, KS, Dwayne E. Dietz and wife Janet of Billings, MT, Alfred D. Dietz, Olympia, WA, one Sister-In-Law; Lois Lenora Dietz of Norton, KS
