Pierina J. Zeiger, 95, of Junction City, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Valley View Senior Life. Pierina was born December 5, 1922 in Morano Sul Po, Italy, the daughter of Giovanni and Josephine (Frankino) Vanni.
Her family moved to Australia when Pierina was very young and she was raised and attended all of her schooling in Townsville, Australia.
Pierina was baptized in the Catholic Church .
Pierina moved with her husband, who was in the U.S. Army, to Ft. Riley and Junction City in 1961. Pierina worked for many years at the Quartermaster Laundry on Ft. Riley until the laundry closed. She later worked civil service in the Finance Dept. on Ft. Riley, where she retired.
Pierina married Clarence Zeiger on January 8, 1945 in Townsville, Australia. Clarence died October 30, 2002.
Survivors include: a son, Tony Zeiger and his wife Diane, Junction City; and a daughter, Evelyn Cruce and her husband Roger, Bourne, Texas. Pierina was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Lily (Vanni) Hansen, and a grandson, Anthony Zeiger in 1989.
Graveside service will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Junction City. The family will greet friends that morning from 9:30 am-10:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, prior to leaving for the cemetery.
