A celebration of life service for Phyllis Ione Burklund Kind, 87, Colorado Springs, CO formerly of Junction City will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City. Pastor Matthew Glasgow will officiate. A graveside service will held at 10 a.m., Friday at the Lyona Methodist Cemetery Southwest of Junction City in Dickinson County. Memorial contributions may be given in lieu of flowers to the First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th Street Junction City, Kansas 66441 or to the Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 400 Colorado Springs, Colorado 80901.
Phyllis Kind went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior December 7, 2007, in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born May 22, 1920, in Junction City where she lived all her life until July 3, 2003 when she moved to the Pikes Peak Care Center in Colorado Springs.
She attended Washington School and Junction City High School. She graduated high school through the American School from Chicago, IL. On December 14, 1945, she married Arthur Leon Kind who had just returned from WWII.
Phyllis' life was hard in many ways including childhood illnesses and being widowed after only four years of marriage. She was left to raise a two year old daughter alone. She did an incredible job sustained by her strong faith and family. She impacted many lives to the very end with her kindness, gentleness and love. Phyllis will be greatly missed but not forgotten; a little lady with an enormous heart of love and a wonderful smile.
Family and friends were always high priorities with Phyllis. She loved flowers, cats and dogs, travel, writing letters and music. She was an avid reader and enthusiastic bingo player.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Connie Gay (Kind) Ames of Colorado Springs, Co., three grandchildren; Brian Ames, Kevin Ames and Laura Rivero; six great grandchildren; Kaija, Rebekka and Gabriel Ames, Ashley Ames, Ariel and Mia Rivero and one great great grandson, Nathaniel Patton.
She was preceded in death by her father Joseph E. Burklund, her mother Laura (Miller) Burkund, her husband Arthur Kind, sisters; Adelia, Burklund, Edith Burklund and Genevieve Burklund, a brother Jay E. Burklund and her son Darrel Richard Kind
