A Mass of Christian Burial for Phillip "Phil" Francis Boyer, 80, of Junction City will be Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow with full Military Honors at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm with a vigil at 7 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. Mr. Boyer passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Mercy Regional Hospital in Manhattan. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 2024 N. Woodlawn STE 114, Wichita, KS 67208.
Phillip was born January 22, 1931 at home in Clay County, the son of Frank and Clarisse Alma (Hamel) Boyer. He spent most of his childhood in Concordia, KS before moving to Junction City. He joined the Army in October of 1951 and served in the Korean War w/CO L. 9th Infantry Regiment where he received the Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars and United Nations Service Medal. He received honorable discharge from the Army upon completion of his Military service and returned to Junction City.
He retired from Milleson's Auto Supply and was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Boyer of Junction City, five sons; Mike Boyer and wife Shelley of Junction City, Don Boyer and wife Cathy Griffee of Clay Center, David Boyer and wife Christine of St. Louis, Brian Boyer and wife Sherry of Dallas, Keith Boyer and Wife Jennifer of the Woodlands, one daughter Lynn Moore of Wichita, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joseph, one sister Helen Baird, one son Phillip and two grandsons Aaron and Brian.
