Peter J. Young, 82, of Junction City, Kansas died on Friday, September 29, 2023 in Junction City, Kansas. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Junction City. The family will greet people prior to the memorial service in the church parlor. A graveside will follow the memorial service with military honors at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the First Presbyterian Church.
Peter was born September 17, 1941, in Elmhurst, Illinois the son of Gilman Boardman and Sarah Charlotte (Bacon) Young.
Peter worked in the retail marketing industry that sent him many places around the world. Early in life, he served in the United States Army. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Junction City where he served as a deacon and volunteered with visitation to the sick and homebound often bringing them goodie bags. Peter was very civic minded and helped in many capacities including volunteer time with the C.L. Hoover Opera House, Geary County Historical Society and helping with the Thanksgiving meal at First Presbyterian Church.
Standing six feet seven inches tall, he was hard to miss. He was a gentle giant and a relentless teaser. Peter was a wonderful cook and had a love for classical music.
Peter married Wanda Tramer July 4, 1994 in Incline Village, Nevada.
Survivors include one son, Mark Young and his wife Leona of Olathe, Kansas; one granddaughter, Aspen; two step-sons, Eric and Bart Tramer; many nieces and nephews in California.
Peter was well loved and is now reunited with his parents, wife and siblings with our Savior in heaven.
