Peter Alan Dansro

SSG (Ret) Peter Alan Dansro, age 64, of Milford, KS died peacefully at 3:16 am on April 29, 2017, at Via Christi hospital in Manhattan, KS with his family at his side. His faith was a source of his strength and perseverance during his battle with lung disease and congestive heart failure.
Peter was born on November 21, 1952 in Schenectady, New York to MSG (Ret) Sherman Joseph Dansro Sr. and Helen Janice Regula Dansro. He attended high school in Georgia and Munic, Germany. He married Doreen Agnes Mahoney (Rutland, Vt) on October 21, 1972 and was married 36 years. After an honorable service of 20 years, Peter retired from the US Army to reside in Milford, Ks. He served at Fort Riley, Ks for 10 years and completed tours in Germany, Korea, and The Gulf War. SSG Dansro was awarded the Army Achievement Medal in 1978 for "his professionalism, enthusiasm, initiative, determination, and devotion in continuous logistical support to the recruiting mission. He was highly motivated to grasp the unique changing demands of recruiting to accomplish the mission regardless of personal sacrifices and the obvious absence of normal duty hours. By his exemplary performance of duty, Sergeant Dansro has reflected distinct credit upon the United States Army, the Army Recruiting Command and himself." In 1983, he was recognized with the Commendation Medal for his "Outstanding performance of duty as Supply Sergeant for A Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry. He was one of the key individuals in the unit during the inactivation period. His hard work and expertise in supply areas contributed significantly to a smooth turn-in of company property. SSG Dansro's dedication to excellence, professionalism, and outstanding performance of duty reflect distinct credit upon himself, this unit and the United States Army." At his retirement ceremony in 1991, SSG Dansro was awarded the Commendation Medal for, "his meritorious service while assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 5th Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry division during Operation Desert Storm. He contributed significantly to the success of the coalition forces defeat of the Iraqi army and the liberation of Kuwait. His tireless devotion to duty exemplifies the finest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry division and the United States Army." Upon retirement, Peter worked as a dedicated employee of Foot Locker in Junction City, Kansas. He was recognized for his performance as a trainer, safety coordinator, and security guard. In 2014, after 22 years of service, Peter retired from the Foot Locker Distribution Center.
Peter was an honest, fair, loving, compassionate man who always put God, his family and others first. He brought out the best in those around him and his happy-go-lucky, personality naturally made people laugh. As a devout Catholic, he took pride in attending Sunday mass, serving as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Peter was a member of Knights of Columbus, ABATE, VFW Legend Riders and Harley's Owner's Group. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, riding his Harley, and reading. Peter was a loyal fan of Atlanta Braves baseball, Falcons football, and Kansas Jayhawks basketball. When saying goodbye you would hear him say, "God Bless us one and all" and "Peace".
Peter is survived by his 2 daughters and their spouses, Naomi Marie Draper and Bill (Milford), Sarah Lynn Kelly and Kevin (Lawrence), and his son, Christopher Michael Dansro (Junction City); his grandchildren, Brittney Michelle, Brandon Michael, Bradley Alan, Brian Alexander, Brooke Lynn, Briella Faye, Kaden Joseph, and Katelyn Marie; great grandchildren, Aubree Shaye-Marie, Ace Rylan; his mother Helen Dansro (Columbus, Ga), his siblings, Sherman Joseph Dansro Jr. (Columbus, Ga), Roy Dansro (Cincinnati, Oh) Sharmane Williford (Columbus, Ga), Julie Barnes (Ocala, Fl), Michelle Farley (Mountain City, Tn), and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Joseph Dansro Sr., his grandson Kameron Troy Whittecar, his sister-in-law Magdeline (Maggie) Pak, and his long time friend Orlando Colon.
