Funeral services for Peggy Ann (Sheppeard) Kovar, 66, Milford Kansas will be 3:00 pm Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Junction City, Kansas with Rev. Kenton Van officiating. There will be no graveside service. Mrs. Kovar passed away September 16, 2008 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday, September 19, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 North Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Junction City First United Methodist Church, 804 North Jefferson, Junction City, Kansas 66441.
Peggy was born December 15, 1941 in Clay Center, Kansas to Ray "Bud" and Bernice (Seitz) Sheppeard. Her family moved to the St. Marys, Kansas area where she completed her high school education and met her husband to be. Peggy married Philip Ray Kovar on February 10, 1961 in Aiken, South Carolina and moved to Fort Polk, Louisiana upon her husbands return from Korea. While in Fort Polk, the birth of their first child Alan Ray Kovar was celebrated. Upon there return to Junction City, Kansas, Peggy and Phil cherished the birth of their daughter Kimberly Ann Kovar.
Peggy developed many lasting friendships while working at Eisenhower Elementary School as head secretary, until her retirement in 1997. What she so loved most was providing attention, love and compassion to the children she saw every day within the school district. Peggy loved the outdoors and spent countless weekends camping, fishing and singing around the campfire with cherished children, friends, family and loved ones. Peggy maintained a strong dedication to God and the Junction City First United Methodist Church.
Peggy's survivors include: her husband Philip Ray Kovar of Milford,Kansas; son, Alan Ray Kovar of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Kimberly Ann Kovar of Grain Valley, Missouri; Granddaughter Hannah Rae Kovar; sister, Sally Flerlage of St. Marys, Kansas; and brother, Ronny Sheppeard of Los Lunus, New Mexico. Preceding Peggy in death was her father, Ray "Bud" Sheppeard, mother, Bernice (Seitz) Sheppeard of Junction City, Kansas; and brother, Larry Sheppeard of Topeka, Kansas.
Pallbearers are Peggy's nephews; Joseph Flerlage III, Daniel Flerlage , Matthew Flerlage, David Flerlage, Michael Flerlage, Steven Hudkins, Ricky Hudkins, Robert Turenne Jr., Richard Turenne, Kevin Kovar, and William Shelton.
