A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors for Paul R. Shown, 70, Junction City. Officiating will be an United States Army Chaplain. Mr. Shown passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the the American Diabetes Association.
Born March 11, 1937 in Newark, Arkansas, he was the son of Charlie and Birtie Lee (Hodges) Shown. He married Herma Kramer on January 30, 1958 in Germany. She survives of the home. Mr. Shown retired after 20 years in the Army as an E-6 and serving in Vietnam twice. While serving in the Army he earned various honors including the Vietnam Service Medal with the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star, Republic Vietnam Cross Gallantry and the Civil Actions Honor Medal (1st Class) He then worked in Secuirty for Lockhead Martin, retiring in 1999.
His hobbies included being an auctioneer, cars and being a 3-wheel triker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Charles, Virgil and Jim Shown; 2 sisters, Pauline Shown, his twin sister, and Rosalyn Sanders.
