Funeral Services for Paul R. Olson, 80, Junction City, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, October 5, 2006 at First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Roberts and Dr. Terry Neidens officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Mr. Olson passed away October 1, 2006 at Valley View Professional Care Center. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Memorial Contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1429 St. Mary's Road, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or American Cancer Society, Heartland Division, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64105, and/or Northeast Kansas Parkinson's Disease Association 1726 SW Shunga Dr., Topeka, KS 66611.

Paul was born June 27, 1926 in Delivan, KS to John and Christina (Asling) Olson. He worked for Johnson Brothers Funeral Home through high school, he left to serve his country in the US Navy from 1943-1945. Upon returning home, he worked with father and brothers as a carpenter. He worked for the Road and Grounds Department at Fort Riley, working his way up to foreman as a tree surgeon. He received several awards for his skills, performance and services at the fort. He retired in 1969 after a tragic fall forced him into early retirement. After he recovered, he worked locally caring for the lawns and trees of private home of many of the prominent people in Junction City.

He was a long time member of First Christian Church, where he served many years as a deacon.

He married Josephine Davies on January 18, 1948 in Junction City; she survives after 59 years of marriage.

Other survivors include his daughter Janetta and her husband Terry Neidens of Topeka, KS, three granddaughters: Jennifer and her husband Dean Krehbiel of Marquette, KS, Lorinda and her husband Steve Lonard of Hanover, PA and Tabitha and her husband Shannon Baldwin of Topeka, KS, two grandsons Daniel Neidens and wife Tracy of Baltimore, MD and Jeremy Neidens of Dubois, WY, seven great-grandchildren Colter and Shealee Krehbiel, Zane, Maxwell, and Seth Lonard and Gabriel and Dakota Baldwin, one brother Garold Olson and his wife Donna of Chapman, KS, a sister-in-law Mrs. Ralph Olson of Colorado Springs, CO, many loved nieces and nephews, some of these served him and his wife as caregivers, especially Glenn and Tina Schmutz and Nancy and Paul Holm of Junction City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers John, Joseph, and Ralph Olson and one sister, Vivian Olson.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Neidens, Jeremy Neidens, Dean Krehbiel, Steve Lonard, Shannon Baldwin and Glenn Schmutz.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Ingmire, Clyde Lovett, Clinton Davies, Ronald Smith, Paul Holm, George Schmutz, and Garold Olson

Organist will be Roxie Johnston and Vocalists will be Jennifer and Dean Krehbiel
