Oscar L. Moore, Sr., 73, of Junction City passed away at Stormont Vail Health Care in Topeka, KS. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Hospital-Bldg #24, RM106G, 2200 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66622.
Oscar was born March 13, 1940, Paris, Arkansas to Henry and Lelah Faye (Dodson) Moore.
He served in the United States Army and received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Silver 1 loop, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and Sharpshooter (Rifle) he retired as a SGT.
Following his retirement from the Army he worked for the City of Junction City as a Building Inspector. He also received his Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Degree from the Manhattan Vocational School. Oscar enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son; Edward H. Moore of Junction City, KS, three daughters; Gwendolyn Bernal (Freddy) of Austin, TX, Marie Moore-Gruca of Derwood, MD and Sherri Gfeller (Tracy) of Junction City, KS and one sister; Dorothy Pippin of Marshall, IL, he is also survived by three grandchildren and three-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Edeltraude (Schindler) Moore and his son; Oscar L. Moore, Jr. both in 1995.
