A Mass of Christian Burial for Orlando Colon-Salo, 48, Junction City will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2010 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be held at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 27th with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Colon-Salo passed away due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, May 22, 2010. Memorial contributions have been designated to St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441.
Orlando was born May 20, 1962, Ponce, Puerto Rico to Gregorio and Isabelle (Salo) Colon. He joined the U S Army in 1981 and retired after 20 years in 2001 as a SSG. He was currently working as a mechanic at RSMS at Camp Funston for the State of Kansas where he had been working since his retirement from the Army.
Orlando was a member of Abate, the American Legion Post #45 where he was currently serving as 1st Director, a member of the Legion Riders where he had previously served as director for 2 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was very active in the community. Orlando was a friend to everyone and he was always available to help anyone in need at anytime and he will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends.
Orlando married Maria J. Ramos December 18, 1982 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
He is survived by his mother Isabelle of Ponce, Puerto Rico, his wife Maria, of Junction City, KS, his son Alex Colon-Ramos of Wichita Falls, TX where he is serving in the U S Air Force at Shepherd Air Force Base, his daughter Melisha Colon-Ramos and grandson Jose Rodriguez-Colon both of Junction City, KS.
He was preceded in death by his father.
