Oknyo Rexrode

Oknyo Rexrode, 85, longtime resident of Junction City, died on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 18, 2012 also at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel with Pastor Park Chong officiating. Burial will follow at the Fort Riley Cemetery. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Korean Church of Manhattan, 511 Westview Drive, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Oknyo was born on February 1, 1927 in North Korea. She emigrated to the United States in 1956 settling first in New York, then in Maryland and Ogden, KS and finally locally in Junction City, KS.

She was married to Robert Rexrode in 1955 during his tour of duty in South Korea. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2006.

She is survived by three sons: Alex Rexrode, Larry and wife Jae Rexrode, and Richard Rexrode all of Junction City; one daughter, Judy Toy of Junction City; nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandson, Brian Rexrode.
