A dedicated wife, loving mother, grand mother, great and great-great grandmother Odessa Ethel Gordon, age 88, of Junction City, Kansas passed into God's hands of natural causes on April 29, 2014. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the family home of 38 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Calvin "Gramps" and Georgia Mason; and husband Cordy Gordon.
Mrs. Gordon was the oldest daughter out of nine children, including Temas "Duck," Odell, Calvin "Sunny," Charles, Mary, Leonard, and Rosa Lee.
Born May 1, 1925, in Moro Bay, Arkansas, Mrs. Gordon lived in Junction City, Kansas, for most of her life. She briefly lived in New Brunswick, NJ and in Kansas City, MO, where she attended cosmetology school, and later worked as a hairdresser. Throughout her life she graciously cared for and opened her home to family and friends, including Uncles Dutch and Bunk. In her later years, she worked at Fort Riley.
She is survived by her loving family: sons Dr. Henry Johnson and his wife Jan of Kansas City, MO; John Collins Johnson and his wife Rose, and Cordy Gordon Jr., both of Junction City; her grandchildren: Jill, Jeremee, Kela, Misty, Henry Jr., John Jr., and Carra; and 18 great grandchildren, including Devon and Zuquana, whom she loved and helped raise; and nieces Odessa and Yvette and their children.
A viewing will be held at Penwell-Gabel's Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue, Junction City, Kansas at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, followed by the Home Going Service at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, 703 W. Ash St, in Junction City, Kansas.
