Funeral Services for Odell Rhodes, Sr. 88, Junction City, KS will be Monday, April 25, 2005, 10am at the Ward Chapel AME Church with Reverend Euzell Ball officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Riley Post Cemetery. Visitation will be 6pm to 7pm Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mass Hinitt Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Ward Chapel AME Church, 1711 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Rhodes was born July 3, 1916, Anderson County, SC to J. H. and Iola (Collins) Rhodes. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1939 serving in World War II and the Korean War. He retired as an E-7 in 1963. Following his retirement from the Army he worked at Fort Riley for Civil Service as a Automotive Inspector Leader retiring September 24, 1982. His first wife Corrine (Williams) Rhodes preceded him in death, he later married Willie Mae (Page) Rhodes January 2, 1960, she preceded him in death July 22, 1999. He had been a resident of Junction City since 1958. He was a member of the Masonic Acacia Lodge #91 of Junction City.
He is survived by two sons, Odell Rhodes, Jr. of Junction City and Lawrence M. Clark of San Antonio, TX, two brothers, Otis and Roosevelt Rhodes both of South Carolina, four sisters, Irene Hagood, Grace Simmons, Laurine Barret and Paulthina Rhodes all of South Carolina, four grandsons, Lawrence M. Clark, II, Chad Clark, Courtney Clark and Loren Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Viola Aiken, and four brothers, Ozell Rhodes, Samuel Rhodes, Lewis Rhodes and J.H. Rhodes.
