Funeral services will be held at Bennett Funeral Home, Chesterfield, VA, Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at the Dale Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Bo.
Jean, as she was known by, was born May 26, 1938, in Weldon, NC, to Norwood Parker and Lillie (Barnes) Tidwell. She grew up in Weldon, NC, where she had to cut her schooling short, to work and help take care of her family. Life wasn't always easy, but Jean was a very hard worker, and put everyone else above herself. This is what lead her to become such a loving and nurturing mother, later on in life.
Jean later moved to Richmond, VA where she met and married the love of her life, SSG (RET) Willard B. Davis (Bo) September 13, 1973, in Richmond, VA. Throughout the years, she helped her husband with his business, but her greatest passion, was being a mother. She took pride in making sure that her family always had a hot meal in their bellies, clean clothes on their backs, and smiles on their faces. Jean and Bo were able to spend 16 wonderful years together, until he passed away November 20, 1989.
Jean loved the holidays, especially Christmas! She couldn't wait to be able to bring out the fine china, and to make it a very special time for everyone. Some may not know, but Jean was quite the fashionista, who enjoyed shopping, her "bling," and there was no such thing as having too much clothing or shoes! She also enjoyed listening to country music and dancing. The best word to describe her is "mom!" She loved fiercely, was compassionate, and so generous and selfless in her love of life and her family. Our mom will forever be missed and adored, and no words will ever be enough to express how much she means to us, and the void we feel, as she was just such a beautiful person, both inside and out.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, grandson, Mark Claytor, Jr., and her special aunt Mary "Mur" Barnes Harrison.
She is survived by one brother, Vernon Tidwell of NC, one sister, Lorrine Rackstraw of AL, her four daughters; Beverly Davis (Chris), of Junction City, KS, Sharon Crane (Kevin) of KC, Phyllis Young (Allen), of Richmond, VA, and Teresa Claytor (Peewee) of Mechanicsville, VA; three stepchildren, Allen Davis, Gary Davis and Brenda Davis; grandchildren; Brooks Beau Davis-Vercher, Blake Vercher, Jake Vercher, Zack Crane, Kara Raw, Kylie Crane, Jacob Young, Christy Goodman, Casey Claytor, Lindsey Claytor, and three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and many others who loved and adored her.
Memorial contributions have been designated to the "Brooks Beau Davis-Vercher Educational Fund," c/o Johnson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 826, Junction City, KS 66441.
