Nicole M Sanchez

A memorial mass for Nicole Marie Sanchez, 71, Junction City will be 4 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2006 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brunghardt officiating. Mrs. Sanchez passed away December 3, 2006 at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 3 p.m.until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Kansas Chapter, 555 N. Woodlawn, Bldg 1, Ste 113, Wichita, KS 67208 and or Hospice at Geary Community Hospital % Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Nicole was born February 14, 1935 in Marseilles, France the daughter of Louis and Erminia (di Calabria) Geraud. She met her husband Henry in 1956 while he was stationed in Europe. They would eventually settle in Junction City and spend the next 40 years as active members of the community. After her family, Nicole's main focus in life was education and she enjoyed a long and productive career teaching children and adults in various settings: she taught French for 10 years at St. Xavier's High School, afterwards instructing students in French and gifted education for over 25 years at the Junction City Junior High and Ft. Riley Junior High Schools. Nicole also taught language classes at various community colleges and at Junction City High School. Nicole was formally recognized for her efforts in education when she was given a Master Teacher award in 1979/1980, was designated Best Teacher Of The Year in 1983/1984 and with her selection to the Who Who's Among America's Teachers in 1990.

Nicole is survived by her husband of 50 years, Henry Sanchez; daughter Linda Sanchez Mulligan and her husband Tom and their two children Maggie and Andrew; and her son John Sanchez and his wife Leslie and stepson Joshua.
