Nicholas M. "Zeik" Mazeika, 71, Junction City, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Mercy Health Center in Manhattan. A visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7:30 pm. Cremation will follow the visitation. A graveside service will be conducted with military honors 10 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Xavier's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS. 66441.
Nicholas "Zeik" Mazeika was born December 24, 1940 in Newark, New Jersey. Nicholas has resided in Junction City for the past several years. He has been a firefighter and Police Officer in New Jersey, he was in the Air Force and Marines, and he retired as a high voltage electrician.
Nicholas was a member of the American Legion and Elks in Junction City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the New Jersey Giants football, spending time with his loved ones and helping as many people as he could. Nicholas will truly be missed for his jokes, amazing sense of humor and the way he could make you laugh when you needed it. For all who knew him, you know that he is up in Heaven doing handy work and telling stories about his "Brand New" things.
Nicholas is preceded in death by his parents, August and Joan Mazeika and an aunt, Anna Chechko.
He leaves behind his daughter, Rachel Jones; sons, Douglas (Donna) Porter, Tim (Maria) Porter, Nicholas (Laurie) Mazeika Jr., and Michael Mazeika; nine grandchildren, Cory, Carrington, Jensen, Emmalyn, Daymien, Faybien, Dalton, Bryce, and Hunter; brother, Richard (Marilyn) Mazeika of Utah; two sisters, Charlotte (Richard) Arkey of New Jersey, and Carol (Tom) Stepnosky of Alaska; twenty-one nieces and nephews, twenty-nine great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great nephews; one aunt, Ann Mazeika of New Jersey; two uncles, George Mazeika of New Jersey and Kit Gonsalves of Florida; good friend Cindi Porter and many other friends and loved ones.
