Nancy Joan Betts, 74, Junction City, died on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. with Fr. Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with a rosary service at 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions in Nancy's memory have been designated to the Good Shepherd Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Drive, Manhattan, KS 66503.
Nancy was born on March 28, 1937 to William and Mary Puha in Maui, Hawaii. She attended schools in Hawaii and spent most of her early life there.
Nancy was married to Richard Betts, Jr. on June 5, 1985 in Junction City, KS. They were together for many happy years until his death in 1992.
Nancy spent part of her life as a foster parent. Two of her greatest passions in life were bowling and playing cards with her good friends in Junction City. She also enjoyed cooking the traditional Hawaiian dishes which she grew up with in her native country of Hawaii.
Nancy is survived by her son, Norman Ford of Costa Mesa, California; one brother, Kenneth Puha of Hawaii; and two sisters, Ruth Farrish, of California, and Auria Richards, of Hawaii. She is also survived by one grandson, Jeanaux Johnson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Betts, Jr.; one brother, William Puha; and two sisters, Pau-Lani Bryant and Millicent Whitcome.
