Myrtle Louise Carr

Myrtle Louise "Babe" Carr, 98, of Aurora, Colorado, formerly of Dwight, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at her daughter's home in Aurora, Colorado. Babe was born April 18, 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William Thomas and Mildred (Richman) Irey. She attended schools in Kansas City and graduated from high school there. She worked for many years as a legal secretary at Hoover, Schermerhorn, Edwards, Pinaire, and Rombold Law Office in Junction City, retiring at the age of 90. She was also a homemaker and farm wife. Babe was known for her love of animals and her commitment to rescuing and finding homes for abandoned animals.

Babe married W. Steve Carr on July 25, 1951 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They farmed and made their home in southeast Geary County. Steve died August 3, 1996. She left the farm to live with her daughter in Aurora in 2009.

Survivors include: 2 sons, Steve Carr and his wife Nancy, and Richard Carr and his wife Karen, all of Dwight; 2 daughters, Mina Miller and her husband Darrell, Dwight, and Linda Carr and companion Rick Bell, Aurora, Colorado; 14 Grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Babe was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law, Lori Carr on June 8, 2016, and a granddaugher-in-law, Katie Gant.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel in Junction City. Burial will follow at the Dwight Cemetery, Dwight, KS. The family will greet friends on Sunday, June 18, 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
