MSG Clyde L. Lovitt
Retired MSG Clyde L. Lovitt died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at age 82. Services
will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church 630 South Eisenhower Dr.
Junction City, Kansas on Tuesday July lOth at 10:00 am with Pastor Matt
Christensen. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ft. Riley Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday, July 9th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Mass-Hinitt Chapel 805
Carolina Ave.
Clyde was born in North Dakota on September 4th, 1924 to Fred and Sarah
(Himes) Lovitt of Watauga, South Dakota. His family of seven children
included sisters Faye (James) Brown of Minnesota; Addie (Tom)
Weidermann of Wisconsin; and Violet (Leonard) Wenck of South Dakota;
and brothers Fred (Millie) Lovitt of Minnesota; Willie Lovitt of South Dakota;
and Dwayne (Carol) Lovitt of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by
his parents Fred and Sarah Lovitt of South Dakota; his brother Fred Lovitt of
Minnesota; his sister Faye of Minnesota; and sister Addie of Wisconsin.
Clyde married Edna Louise Pingel of Lake Preston South Dakota on June 5,
1949. He is survived by his beloved wife and his children: Linda (Curtis)
Johnson of Junction City, Kansas; David (Dalene) Lovitt of Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma; Steven (Tina) Lovitt of Savannah, Georgia; Kevin (Patti) Lovitt
of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren. Other survivors include: brothers Willie Lovitt of South
Dakota and Duane Lovitt of Minnesota; and sister Violet (Leonard) Wenck
of South Dakota.
His 23 years of military service included assignments overseas in Iceland,
Korea, Vietnam, and Germany, along with assignments in Washington,
Alaska, and Ft. Riley, Kansas where he retired in June of 1973. During his
military career he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Army
Accommodation Medal. Clyde's service to the military extended to the
community wherever the military took him, while his volunteer services
were many, one notable occasion is when he volunteered his time at a
local orphanage and handcrafted 24 rocking horses and other wooded
toys for the children (Korea 1968-1969) .His dedicated service to the
community and to those in need of assistance continued until his passing.
After retirement from the army he completed courses in air-conditioning
and refrigeration at Manhattan Vo-Tech. He was then employed at
Mick's Appliances and also Johnson Brother's Furniture. Upon retirement
from civilian life he enjoyed several years of RV living and traveling.
Travels took him to Hawaii, England, Austria, Switzerland, Germany,
Holland, Italy, France, and various parts of the U.S. Always a farmer at
,heart, Clyde took great pride in his' flower garden which he managed to
enjoy year-round. Clyde's greatest pleasure in retirement was the quality
time he was able to enjoy with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
family. His love and understanding for everyone in all things was infinite.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church at Junction City
or the Junction City Association of Retired School Personnel.
