Morton Lee Berry, 81, of Junction City, died August 30, 2016 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Morton was born September 6, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of William H. & Daisy Mae (Talmadge) Berry. Morton graduated from high school in Pittsburgh and joined the U.S. Air Force out of school. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Air Force, he joined the U. S. Army, where he served over 23 years. He was discharged as a SSG from the Army in 1977. After his military service, he worked for United Telephone Co., and later as a civilian employee at Ft. Riley. When he retired from Ft. Riley, he worked on campus at K.S.U. as custodian supervisor at the student union. During his post-military career, he earned his B.S. degree in Business at Kansas State University.
Morton was a member of the American Legion Post #45, and the Masonic Lodge #91, A.F. & A.M., both of Junction City.
Morton married Verna Rogers February 17, 1991 in Junction City. She survives. Other survivors include: 3 sisters, Judy Tobias and Victoria Thompson, both of Pittsburgh, PA, and Patricia Wilson and her husband Hubert, Altadena, Calif.; a step-son, Keith Fizer and his wife Elizabeth, Ryan, Oklahoma; 2 step-daughters, Sheila Thomas and her husband Jeff, Lakeland, Florida, and Angela Henning, Odessa, Missouri; and 6 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Jacob, and Jared Fizer, and Gregory and Garrett Carliss. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Berry, and a sister, Marjorie Berry.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart and Lung Association, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS 66441.
