Morris Dozier, Sr.

November 30, 1921 — July 24, 2014

Morris Dozier, Sr., 92, of Junction City, died July 24, 2014 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Morris was born Nov. 30, 1921 in Leslie, GA., the son of the late Charlie & Minnie (Frazier) Dozier. Morris attended schools and graduated from Staley High School, Americus, GA.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 to start his 20 year career, retiring in 1962 as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW3) . After his military career, he completed his Business Administration degree from Brown-Mackie College in Salina. He later owned & operated Universal Insurance Company in Junction City. Morris also served as a Geary County Commissioner from 1970-1982. He was a member of the Church of Our Savior United Methodist Church, the William Leroy Talbot Post #8773 of the V.F.W., both of Junction City, and was a life member of Post # 0558 of the American Legion, in Americus, GA.

Morris married Mary L. Dozier on Mar. 3, 1944 in Charleston, S.C. Mary died Feb. 23, 2004. Survivors include: a son, Air Force Lt. Col. Morris C. Dozier Jr . (Ret.) and his wife Dr. Patricia Dozier, Junction City; a daughter, Rev. Dr. Yolonda Dozier, Arlington, VA.; a brother, Ulysses Dozier, Roosevelt, N.Y.; 3 sisters, Minnie Haynes, Decatur, GA., Varnetta Bell, New York, and Maude Richardson, Cincinnati, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, Lawrence Clark, Arthur Wilcox, Shana McBurrows, Tiffany, Yannic and Sakai Dozier and 6 great grand children. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, John and Jacob Dozier.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Church of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Junction City, with Pastors Joyce Allen, Audrey Toombs, and Leonard Gray presiding. Burial will be in Ft. Riley Post Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. Visitation will be at 10:00 at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. or the Buffalo Soldiers, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS. 66441.
