Morris H. Beckman

Morris H. Beckman, 93, of Junction City, KS, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Salina Regional Health Center. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2019, at the St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Kyle Berens officiating. The burial of cremated remains will be at 2:00 p.m., August 8, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to St. Xavier Catholic Church or to the Junction City Animal Shelter.

Morris Beckman was born July 15, 1926, at Elgin, NE the son of William and Johanna (Starman) Beckman.

Morris married Dorothy Snyder April 12, 1950 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond, VA.

Mr. Beckman was drafted into military service and spent over twenty years in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. He was assigned to Lackland Army Airfield, TX; Fort Holibird, MD twice; Manila, Philippines, stationed at Camp John Hay in Northern Luzon; Korea; Richmond, VA; Kyoto, Japan; Tokyo, Japan; Fort George Meade, MD; Madisonville, KY; Army Language School, Monteray, CA; Munich, Germany; Berlin, Germany; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Fort Riley, KS, where he retired to be with his family. He spent two years with the KS-NE Gas Company before returning to Fort Riley where he spent eighteen years as Chief of the Personnel Security Branch for the G2, and Chief of the Personnel Security Branch for the Third ROTC unit.

Mr. Beckman was awarded the Good Conduct Medal seven times to include one Presidential Unit Award (Navy). He earned a file full of commendations for outstanding performance and one from the Secretary of the Army. He made friends with the head-hunters of Northern Luzon while stationed at Camp John Hay, and his reports were listed in the G2 Bulletin from General MacArthur's HQ on a weekly basis.

Morris is survived by his wife Dorothy Beckman, at their home in Junction City, KS; five children, Mary Morissa (Beckman) Lavender of Denton, TX, Mary Rebecca (Beckman) McMillin-Beckman of Junction City, KS, Joseph M. Beckman of San Antonio, TX, David S. Beckman of Crowley, TX and Trudi C. Beckman of Ft. Worth, TX; three brothers, Lyle Beckman of Lenexa, KS, Father Martin Beckman of Minnesota and Philip Beckman of Colorado; two sisters, Joan (Beckman) Pollock of Ewing, NE and Joyce Marie (Beckman) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Larry, Vernol (Slim), Cletus (Dick) and Mark, who died in infancy.
