Monica Jean Russell, 49, of Junction City, died Feb. 1, 2016 at Geary Community Hospital. Monica was born June 25, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of McCoy and Ethel L. (Lowe) Smith. Monica attended schools in Chicago, graduating from Unity High School, and later attending Washington Community College.
Monica moved to Junction City in 1995 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Church of the Living God, and had volunteered with the Cancer Support Group in Junction City.
Monica married Victor A. Russell, Sr. in Junction City in 1995. He survives of the home. Other survivors include: a son, Victor A. Russell, Jr.; and a daughter, Montinique Russell, both of Junction City; a brother, Anthony M. Smith and his wife Mechele, Calumet City, Ill; a sister, Mia Cox, Chicago, Ill; and many extended family.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel, Junction City. Cremation will follow the service. The family will greet friends on Friday, beginning at 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Johnson Cancer Research Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
