Funeral services for Minnie P. Boyd, 83 of Junction City will be Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Ward Chapel AME Church, 1711 N. Jefferson St. with Pastor Viola Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Riley Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 11, 2011 from 6-8pm at the Penwell Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave. Mrs. Boyd passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Geary Community Hospital. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ward Chapel AME Church.
Minnie was born March 5, 1928 in Fort Riley, KS to Maryland & Gladys (Robinson) Martin. She went to school in Junction City and graduated from Junction City High School in 1945. Minnie then went on to Emporia State University and graduated with a major in music and a minor in English. While in Junction City and teaching at varies schools in Kansas City she met and married Master Sergeant Jerry S. Boyd in 1954 in Fort Riley. She then taught at schools at various Army posts, stateside and overseas. They moved back to Junction City where they made their home and she devoted her time working for the Lord at the Ward AME Chapel. She worked with youth, minister of music, played the piano and taught for senior, Men's, Angelic, Youth and inspirational choirs. Minnie was also a Sunday school teacher, lay member, trustee, steward, church secretary, accountant and Director of the Junction City Community Singers all for over 40 years.
Minnie belonged to the Masonic organizations: St. Tabitha Chapter #75, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of Isis Fayum Court #192, Naomi Court #28 Heroines of Jericho and Goldie L. Sharp order of Cyrenes #11.
She is survived by her son; Jerry S. Boyd, Jr and his wife Donna and granddaughter Naomi "Grandmas' Baby" all; Jerry's Godmother, Geraldine Turner and family all of Junction City, Grandson; Damion Boyd of Lawrence, KS; his kids Dimantae, Javontae, Jaymasin. Grandson Phillip Davis and his wife Jacquette and their kids Lamarius, Destiny, Damian and LaNiaha of Fort Campbell, KY. Nieces; Theresa Frasier, Leola Carter, Bulah Mae Butler all from SC. A dear friend Sylvia Brown.
Minnie is preceded in death by her husband Jerry S. Boyd, Sr. September 17, 1991, her parents and her sister Lila Martin.
