Funeral services for Minnie M. Winslow, 91, Junction City will be 10:00am Thursday December 31, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Pastor James Callaway officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery. Minnie passed away December 27, at Valley View Senior Life Center. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel 203 N. Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church 624. N. Minnie was born November 26, 1918 in Bunker Hill, KS the daughter of Hugh Leroy and Zora Alice (Addington) Chenoweth. She grew up in rural Barton County and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1936.
On July 16, 1942 she was united in marriage to Lorain L. Winslow. He served 23 years in the US Army. They were stationed at the following bases: Fort Collins, CO, Los Angeles, San Miguel, and Paso Robles, CA: Olympia, WA: Bamberg, Germany and Fort Riley ,KS. He retired in Junction City. He preceded her in death January 10, 1974. After the children were older Minnie worked in Junction City for several years at Duckwalls, before going to work at Montgomery Wards managing the coffee shop until she retired.
After her retirement her travels took her to the Holy Land, Canada, and on a Caribbean cruise.
She joined the First Baptist Church in Junction City in 1951, where she was a active member until her health began failing the last few years. She was involved in many areas including Circle and ABW. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Wilma Whitaker and Agnes Fae Charles, brother Leroy Chenoweth of
Susank, KS, who died earlier this year, daughter Sandra Wildman, and granddaughter Kim Wildman.
Minnie is survived by sons Gary Winslow of Topeka, KS and Dale Winslow of Manhattan, KS.
