Minnie A. Valdemar, 74, of Milford, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 at her home. Minnie was born May 11, 1941 in Hacienda Santa Engracia Tamaulipas, Mexico, the daughter of Epifanio and Ignacia (Marquez) Alvarez. She was a clerk at Financial Aid Office at Kansas State University for many years. She had also been a volunteer with ACS, while her husband was in the military. Minnie was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church. Minnie was an avid gardener, and loved to go fishing. She enjoyed art, mentoring young people and was an admirer of beautiful scenery for self-meditation.
Minnie married Arnoldo Valdemar on Sept. 3, 1966 in Sparta, Wisconsin. Arnoldo died Feb. 10, 2014. Survivors include: a son, Arnie Valdemar and wife Wendy, Milford; a daughter, April Mae Valdemar, Junction City; a brother Juan Alvarez and his wife Rosie; a sister, Alicia Moreno, all of Mission, Texas; and 3 grandsons, Andrew M. Esterly, Opelousas, LA, Kyle Mitchell and Hunter L. Valdemar, both of Milford. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Arnoldo; her parents, and her brother, Jose Alvarez.
It was Minnie's request to be cremated.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at St. Xavier Church, with Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt presiding. Burial of the ashes will follow in the Milford Cemetery. The family will greet friends, Fri. evening, Jan. 15, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City. Memorial contributions may be given to the K.U. Endowment Fund, or the J.C. Jr. Baseball Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
