Funeral services for Mildred L. Piper, 93, formally of Junction City will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. with Chaplain Carol Kuhlman officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel from 6-8 pm. Mrs. Piper passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 in Salina, Kansas at their home.
She was born August 27, 1917 on a farm in Geary County, KS on Clarks Creek. The daughter of the late Peter and Ellen Turnbull. She married Roy Lester Piper, March 1, 1936 at Zion Evangelical Church in Junction City.
Mrs. Piper was preceded in death by parents and two daughters. Dorothy Louise on June 23, 1944 at the age of 14 months and Virginia Lee December 9, 1947 at the age of 17 months. Twin great-grandchildren Cotton James and Brock Piper on May 13, 1993. Two brothers Melvin Turnbull, September 1, 2003 and Ray Turnbull, July 26, 2009 and her step-father Clell Olson.
Survivors include her husband Roy of the home. One son, Loren Roy and his wife Patricia Piper of Salina, KS, five grandchildren, Walter Piper of White City, KS; Lori and husband Tim Harner; Robert and his wife Tanya Piper; Kristi and her husband Roger Mueller all of Salina, KS, Brenda Gonzalez of FL. Fourteen Great-Grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters Hazel Barefield of Junction City; Marcella Hermstein of Herington; and sister-in-law Jill Turnbull of Wichita.
Mildred was a wonderful homemaker and loved to cook and was known for her pies and cinnamon rolls. In their earlier days they loved to travel. She loved bingo. That was her great joy. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Mildred will be missed by her loving husband, family and friends.
