Michael E. Overbay (Mike), 72, of Milford, Kansas, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Good Shepherd Hospice, Manhattan, Kansas. Cremation will take place. Visitation will be on July 18, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City, Kansas. There will be a celebration of life at The Milford Congregational Church, 308 10th Street, Milford, Kansas, on July 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.
Mike was born on June 5, 1951, to Tom and Bertha (Hooten) Overbay in Bicknell, Indiana.
Mike worked as a railcar repairer, welder, machinist and supervisor for 42 years. He also worked for the City of Junction City for many years. Mike was a multi-term City Councilman in Milford and served as the Mayor of Milford. Mike's career spanned many states as he worked in Indiana, Alabama, and finally settled with his beloved wife, Janet, in Milford.
Mike and Janet married on October 6, 1973.
Mike and Janet hosted poker parties for their family and friends. He was an avid card player and always knew how to take the pot. Hosting these events allowed him to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and having their famous family fish fry parties.
He is survived by his loving wife; two daughters, Lori Harris of Overland Park, Kansas and Kelly (Scott) Ullmer of Burlingame, Kansas; one sister, Pearl (Larry) Scroggins of Florida; one brother, Tom (Linda) Overbay of Laurenceville, Illinois; six grandchildren, Amber, Tyler, Shelby, Kayela, Matthew, and Michael; two great-grandsons, Emilio and Camden; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Tori Overbay; one son, David Overbay; and two brothers, Charlie and Joe Overbay.
