Michael Lawrie

January 29, 1961 — August 18, 2014

Michael Lawrie, 53, of Junction City, departed this life on August 18, 2014, at his home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City.

A Home Going service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Junction City. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Michael was born January 29, 1961, in Boston Massachusetts and lived and traveled as a military child to many different places, eventually making his home in Junction City, Kansas. He is survived by his parents William Lawrie, of Tulsa, Ok., and his mother and Stepfather Shirley and Otis Scroggins, of Junction City, one brother Jamahl Lawrie and Sister-in-Law Gabriella, along with two nephews Jeremiah and Joshua, of Independence, KS. He leaves behind an Aunt, Gladys Hamm of Stoughton, Massachusetts, who was like a mother to him, and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins and many friends in Junction City who mourns his death. Michael will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a great lover of music and taught himself to play musical instruments, and particularly enjoyed playing the bass guitar and getting together with members of his make-shift band, just for the love of music.

He was a long time employee of the Ft. Riley PX and he was a driver for the Yellow Cab Taxi Company of Junction City. He enjoyed working with all of his co-workers. If you have ever visited the main Post Exchange you probably have met and spoken to this quiet and gentle man who was always going about his work in a quiet and diligent manner, yet he always had time for a short conversation.

Michael was a graduate of Patch High School in Stuttgart, Germany with some formal training from Manhattan Technical College. Some of his hobbies were music and fishing. He loved tinkering with old cars of all types, and finding out how electronics and other stuff worked by taking them apart and putting them back together. He was a quiet and gentle man who drew people to himself. Michael had many friends who loved him dearly.

Michael passed from this life on Monday, August 18th, 2014. This is a memorable quote, quoted by Michael not long ago: " Today I have Jesus behind me and my friends, so it will be a good day". We trust that Jesus is behind Michael today and that he is resting in HIS bosom.
