Funeral services for Michael James Moyer, 55, of Junction City will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, Kansas with military honors. Mr. Moyer passed away on June 22, 2009. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel. Memorial contributions may be given in Michael's name in c/o Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street or brought by 315 W. 11th Street, his older sister's residence. The family requests no flowers be sent just cards and contributions.

Mr. Moyer was born March 9, 1954 in Junction City, KS to Harold Leo Moyer and Lucille Wanita Moyer. He attended the Geary County School District graduating from Junction City High School in 1972, he lettered in Football and Track and Wrestling.

Michael entered the Navy on July 4, 1972 with Rocky Gardner, they went in on the buddy system. There were several high school seniors who entered the Navy that year. Gary Harper was another senior in Michael's yearbook that said he would see him in San Diego and hoped they got on the same boat. During his Navy career he attended a few colleges, Community Junior College in San Diego, University of West Florida and the University of Arizona.

Some of the ships he served on were the USS NAVASOTA in 1973, the MSCO San Diego, CA., PSD Balboa, San Diego, the USS CONSTELLATION cv64, CRUITRACEN San Diego, the RTC NTC San Diego, the PSD NTC San Diego, some of the places he went were Japan, Singapore and the Persian Gulf. He served 20 years active duty, 10 years of fleet reserve duty, 30 years retired as of June 22, 2009. Some of his titles aboard ships were Command Yeoman and Legal Yeoman, Administrative Assistant for Engineering Dept., Petty Officer for Legal Dept., Security Officer and Senior Watch Officer to name a few.

He received several awards and medals for his service, the Meritorius Unit Commendation, (3) Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal (2), Navy "E" Ribbon Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2). After retiring from the navy he returned home. Michael was a master tradesman and did odd jobs working with and for Mr. Freddie Edwards. Michael loved sports especially football. He was a manager/trainer for Junction City High School. He loved cooking, especially oriental dishes and he loved to BBQ on the 4th of July.

Michael was married three times in the course of his life, Toilea E. Buckner of Ottawa, KS was wife No. 1, Linda Moyer of San Diego was wife, No. 2. JoAnn Moyer also of San Diego was wife No. 3, when he died he was a single man.



He is survived by one son, Malonn Jerrell Moyer and wife Quadrirria Ann of Houston, TX, brother, Melvin Moyer and wife Solveeta of Kansas City, KS, two nephews, Kameron and Kandraus Moyer, niece, Keiana Moyer, two sisters, Marquita Hawkins Moyer of Junction City, KS and Marie Foley (Moyer) of Lakewood, WA, other nieces include Fraunne, Lakitha and Alona Foley, Nishon Hawkins and Patrice Hawkins and nephew, Johnny Hawkins, three grandchildren, Malonn J. Moyer, Jr., TyJaCob A. Johnson, Cherish S. Moore, cousins Billy Starks and Tommy Starks, one aunt, Jane Scott of Abilene, KS. He also leaves behind a most precious and dear friend Cristita Kirk of Spring Valley, CA and a host of other close friends. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
