Michael A. Guthrie, 60, of Junction City transitioned from the earthly realm to the spiritual on June 6, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. A Going Home Celebration will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Deliverance, 1516 N. Jefferson Street, Junction City, KS. Bishop Mary E. Pope will officiate, burial with military honors will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dove Cremation and Funeral Services, 805 Caroline Avenue.
He was born on October 6, 1955, Gastonia, North Carolina to Alexander and Geneva (Jackson) Guthrie, Jr.
Michael served in the U S Army and was a veteran of Desert Storm. He was then stationed at Fort Riley, KS and following his service to his country he and Mary decided to make Junction City, KS their home and made the Church of Deliverance their home church. He became a Fire Fighter and EMT with the Junction City Fire Department and retired from there in 2009.
Michael was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tarheels, North Carolina Panthers.
On June 8th he and Mary (Jackson) would have been celebrating 34 years together.
Michael is survived by his loving Wife, Mary, his Sons, Frederick M. Guthrie of Gastonia, NC, Carlos Jackson of Junction City, KS; Four Daughters, Alisha Guthrie of Raleigh, NC, Shatreece Guthrie of Augusta, GA, Keisha Guthrie of Charlotte, NC, Shataun (Jason) Sullivan of Blue Springs, MO and Sister, Alexis (Ronald) Jefferies of Gastonia, NC; he is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Geneva Guthrie, Father, Alexander Guthrie, Jr., Sister, Voncilla Guthrie-Floyd, and Brother, Harold Novak Guthrie.
Dove Cremation & Funeral Service of Junction City, KS is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
