Merita H. Hartung, 84, of Junction City, passed away on Wed., Apr. 21, 2004 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Services will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City on Sat., Apr. 24, 2004 at 2 p.m. Father Al Brungardt will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, April 23, 2004, 6 to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City. Burial will be at Welcome Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 1821 University Avenue W., Suite S256, St. Paul, MN 55104 and/or Cottonwood Estates, 1417 W. Ash Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Merita was born on Jan. 25, 1920 in Geary County, KS the daughter of William and Edith (McDiffett) Janke. She is a lifelong resident of Geary County.
She worked in retail sales for 25 years at JC Penneys in Junction City retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City.
She was married to William (Bill) Henry Hartung, Jr. on Feb. 15, 1941 in Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1993.
Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie and James Wahle of Junction City, Jerrie and Richard Zook of Morenci, MI, and May and Dennis Stittsworth of Lenexa, KS.; one sister, Mildred M. Page of Junction City; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her twin sister, Anita Janke.
Pallbearers will be Russell Sinnard, Michael Stittsworth, Dennis Page, Darrell Page, Kurt Weiland and David Young.
