Maxine Louise (Gfeller) Adams, 91, of Junction City, passed away on her birthday, March 3rd, at her home. Visitation will be Sunday, March 6th from 6-8 pm at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 7th at Zion's United Church of Christ in Junction City with Reverend Dr. Patty Brown-Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Junction City.
She was born in Junction City March 3, 1920 to Morris and Rose (Meister) Gfeller. She graduated from Junction City High School and Brown Macke Secretarial College in Salina. Maxine worked at the finance office at Fort Riley until her marriage July 15, 1945 to Edwin (Bud) Adams. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1995.
Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Estelene Schlappi.
Maxine is survived by her son, Dennis and wife Ilene of Manhattan, her daughter, Connie and husband Barry Sunstrom of Milford, and her son, Wayne and wife Roxy of rural Junction City. Survivors also include 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, her sister Marjorie Davis and brother Clinton Gfeller.
Maxine lived all of her life in the farming community. As a homemaker, she was an avid gardener. Maxine served on the Geary County Election Board for more than 50 years and was on a bowling team for over 40 years. Maxine was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
