Funeral services for Maxine L. (Otto) Lathrop, 88, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 6p.m.-8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson, 203 N. Washington Street. Maxine passed away at Chapman Valley Manor, Saturday, July 23, 2011. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in care of the funeral home.
Maxine was born near Milford, KS on December 28, 1922 to Arthur H. and Bertha (Altwegg) Otto. She grew up near Milford and attended High Point school, graduating from Junction City High School in 1940.She worked for both Federal and State Civil Service and retired after 35 years from Social and Rehabilitation Services.
On June 1, 1946 she married First Lt. Gerald T. Lathrop, air force pilot. He passed away March 30, 1994. She enjoyed retirement making quilts, playing bridge and mahjong, and being with friends and family. She volunteered at the First Presbyterian Church helping out with funeral dinners, receptions and the nursery, and assisted with blood drives for the Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bruce Maxwell, and a brother Raymond Otto. She is survived by her son, James (Mary) Lathrop, her sister, Lois (Bill) Strauss, of Junction City, two grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Hulik of Blue Springs, MO and Jered (Chantel) Lathrop of Overland Park, KS and four great-grandchildren, Julian and Payton Hulik and Alayna and Malia Lathrop.
Pallbearers will be Ron Strauss, Steve Strauss, Larry Wagner, Caleb Strauss, Jered Lathrop and Joe Hulik.
Vocalist will be Rick Munson and Organist will be Ramona Printz-Smith.
