Memorial services for Maxine J. Miles, 87, of Junction City, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Penwell Gabel Johnson, 203 N. Washington Street. Cremation is taking place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. A Private family interment will take place at Fort Riley cemetery. Memorial contributions have been designated to the First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th Street, Junction City, KS 66441.
Maxine passed away at her home the Bicentennial Manor, Junction City, Kansas on April 13, 2011. She was born October 4, 1923 at Onaga, Kansas to Jess and Edna (Robinson) Hopper. She married Charles Miles, Jr. on September 6, 1941. She was a proud army wife and lived in many different places including, Germany, Italy, Texas, Kansas, North Carolina and Kentucky. For many years she worked for Dr. Croy, a Junction City chiropractor. She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord as well as a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
She was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church Junction City, Kansas.
She is survived by her children, Charles Miles, III and wife Rhea of Gig Harbor, Washington; Gary Miles and wife Joyce of Junction City, Linda (Miles) Draper and husband Fred of Delphi, Indiana; Susan (Miles) Gratz of Junction City and Steven Miles and wife Sun Cha of Salina; her brothers Danny Hopper of Junction City and Jerry Hopper of Topeka; sisters Rosa Lee Igler of Surprise, Arizona; Joanne Cox of Oxnard, California and Julie Jordan of Topeka. Eleven grandchildren: Annette Hockman, Charles Miles IV, Arleen Young, Lisa Kahler, Jeff Miles, LeAnn Miles, Tammy Foor, Randi McCreary, Becki Baker, Patti Hudelson and Rob Gratz. Eighteen great grandchildren: Andrew, Silas, Charles V, Jerritt, Tyler, Brandon, Dylan, Dayna, Allison, Jordan, Taylor, Shelby, Allyson, Kodie, Zaid, Elian, Brendan and Aiden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Joyce Hartwick, her son-in-law Robert Gratz and a great grandson, Tanner Kahler.
Musicians will be Larry Deppish and Joe Markley.
