Beatrice “Maurine” Gould (age 78), of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, in Kansas City, Kansas. Cremation will take place. The family will receive friends between 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on September 22, 2023 at the Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow the visitation at Highland Cemetery.
Maurine was born, Beatrice Maurine Jenkins, on January 23, 1945, in Parsons, Kansas. She was the first of five children of William Grant and Nellie Genevieve (Whetzel) Jenkins.
She married the love of her life, Raymond, on June 29, 1968, in Marshfield, Missouri. Together they moved to Wakefield, Kansas and settled in Junction City, Kansas to raise their three children. Her life was busy working for The Kansas City Star newspaper, as a carrier. Every summer she worked in her extensive vegetable garden and canning. She enjoyed teaching her kids to ride the family horse, as she had much experience with horses when she was growing up.
After retiring, she was blessed with two loving granddaughters. They filled her days with constant fun and play.
Maurine enjoyed arranging large family holiday meals and parties. She brought everyone together with her delicious cooking.
Survivors include her husband Raymond of Junction City, Kansas; two daughters, Charlette Whitley of Edmond, Oklahoma and Brenda Whitebread of Junction City, Kansas; two granddaughters, Claira and Sadie Whitebread of Junction City, Kansas; one brother, John Jenkins; three sisters, Virginia Koonce, Maraland Stevens, and June Young.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Brian Gould.
