Services for Maud E. Ryan will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2004 at the Holy Temple Church in Junction City. Burial will be at Fort Riley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Holy Temple Church, 638 W. 13th Street, Junction City, KS 66441
Sunrise was December 14, in Marlin, Falls County, Texas to the parents of Mr. Zebedee Humphrey Sr. and Mrs Roberta Mozee Humphrey. Maud was th product of a Christian home, where values and respect for others were emphasized.
Maud accepted the lord as her personal savior at an early age and was united with the families home church, Upper Zion in Marlin, TX under the leadership of Pastor W.M. Knapp. As Maud was growing up into womanhood she spent most of her years working on the family farm. She attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Marlin. She attended advanced education at The University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska. When she became a woman she met and fell in love with Matthew Ryan and they were married in Waco, TX on October 30, 1945 and to this blessed union three children were born. For over forty years Maud resided in Manhattan and Junction City, KS. She retired as a cook after working more than 25 years at AAFES.
Maud was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Ryan, her parents, two sisters, Clodine Humphrey and Ella Humphrey Smith, and two brothers, "Baby" Humphrey and Zebedee S. Humphrey, Jr.
On August 18, 2004 in Stormont-Vail Medical Center in Topeka, KS the sun set and our father in heaven said your work is done.
After all was said and done she leaves to cherish her memory: Three daughters, Shirreen Ryan Young of Junction City, Linda B. Ryan Vinson of Charlotte, NC and Brenda Ryan Chisholm of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers, Mr. Sylvester Humphrey of Baltimore, MD and Dr. Charles A. Humphrey of Dallas, TX; twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, friends and a very special friend, Sister Jackie Lucas of Junction City. Maud was a member of several civic organizations. She was a trustee and also a long standing mother of the Holy Temple Church.
