Mary Louise Reighley, 89, of Junction City, went to the Lord on September 26, 2011. Mary passed away peacefully at Valley View Senior Life after a long and brave struggle with Parkinson's disease. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Cremation will follow the Mass and inurnment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Friday, September 30, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. with rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions have been designated to the St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mary was born in Abilene, KS on December 7, 1921 to Clifford Preston "Cap" and Blanche (Lynch) Simpson. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1938, and married Bruce Reighley of Junction City in 1939. They made their home in Junction City until Bruce died in 1995.
Mary had one sister, Virginia Weaver of Abilene who preceded her in death in 2005.
Mary was a loving mother and homemaker and a life-long member of St. Xavier Parish. She worked at Allen's Grocery Store for many years and retired in 1987 from Fort Riley where she worked in the non-appropriated funds office.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Reighley of Junction City and Mary Ann Kuhle of Pullman, WA. She has five grandchildren; Shannon Seaman, Michael Schad, Jon Schad, Jody (Schad) Brand and Andrew Kuhle, and five step-grandchildren. She has twenty five surviving great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her long time companion, Dick Wolters, who visited her daily in the nursing home bringing her news about her loved ones and playing cards.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and experienced her love and kindness.
