Mary Kathryn Sears, 95, Topeka, formerly of Junction City, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2008.
Mary K. was born on July 30, 1913, in Junction City, the daughter of John Michael and Mary Louisa (McCardle) Bogan.
She graduated from St. Xavier's High School in 1931 and immediately went to work at Ft. Riley. She completed her career in 1974, retiring from the Post Headquarters, G-3 section. Upon retirement, she began working at the Junction City Country Club, becoming the club manager in 1976. From 1986-1999 she entertained diners by playing piano at the Country Kitchen restaurant.
Mary K. was a lifetime member of St. Xavier's Catholic Church where she was a member of Circle 3 and the church organist for over 30 years.
Survivors include her sons, Mike (Sheryl) Sears, Greensboro, NC, Pat (Millie) Sears, Topeka; grandchildren, Roy Sears, Brandy Sears, Lovica Pourmirza, Robert Sears, and Daniel Sears; and great-grandchildren, Sage Pourmirza, Alec and Isabella Sears. She was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Bogan.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2008, at St, Xavier's Catholic Church in Junction City. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the Penwell Gabel Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave. Junction City, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
