A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Jean Minnick, 91, of Junction City, KS will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 17, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Junction City.
A celebration of life and visitation will be held Friday, July 16, 2010, 6-8 PM, with vigil service at 7:30 PM at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City, KS. Mrs. Minnick passed away at her home on July 14, 2010. A lifelong resident of Junction City, Mary Jean graduated from Junction City High School in 1936 and obtained a BS degree in Journalism from Kansas State University in 1941.
In 1942 she married fellow journalist and K-Stater, Al Makins who was also serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army, Al was killed in action in 1944. In 1947 she married Dr. C.V. Minnick and they shared thirty nine years of marriage until C.V.'s death in 1986. Mary Jean worked for the K-State Collegian as society editor while in school and also as a contributing social editor for the Junction City Daily Union. She was a loving and kind woman who gave unselfishly of her time and energies to her family and many local charities. Mary Jean served for over twenty five years in the Geary Community Hospital Auxiliary and over sixty years in the St. Xavier Parish Circle Three.
She is survived by daughters Mary Kay Amidei, San Diego, CA, and Joanne Babich, Raytown, MO. and one son, John D. Minnick, Topeka. KS. She is also survived by daughter-in -law, Sharyn Minnick, Overland Park, KS. Another son, Charles R. Minnick pre-deceased her in 2008. In addition she is survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family also wishes to thank Faye Hall of Junction City for her loving and professional care in Mary's home for the last three years.
