The Gustafson Family acknowledges the death of their daughter and sister, Mary Janice "Jan" Gustafson, 56, of Wamego. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2005 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2005 with Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. She died Monday, March 7, 2005 as the result of a vehicle accident. Jan was born March 27, 1948, Junction City, to William A. and Mary Ellen (Beavers) Gustafson. She was raised on the family farm in southeast Geary county. She graduated from St. Xavier's High School in 1966 and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1971. Jan then graduated from Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in 1973 and began her nursing career at Lawrence Memorial Hospital (1973-1975) and John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, TX (1975-1978).
Since July of 1978 Jan has touched many lives in the various nursing positions she has held at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS. Most recently, Jan served as the RN inpatient Coordinator for Wound Care and Ostomy in the Wound Care Center at Mercy Regional Health Center.
In addition to her many friends and patients, Jan is survived by her father of the family farm, two sisters; Margaret Ringer of Concordia, KS and Karen Leighton of Quinter, KS, five brothers; Dr. William A. Gustafson, Jr. of Lincoln, NE, Karl Gustafson of TX, John Gustafson, Gus Gustafson and Richard Gustafson all of Junction City, KS. She is also survived by Colleen and Anna Riley of Wamego, KS, thirteen nieces and nephews and three great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1994 and grandparents.
Pallbearers will be Jason Gustafson, Lee Gustafson, Garand Leighton, Bo Ringer, Dustin Ringer, Kit Ringer and Kolt Ringer.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Logan Gustafson, Bill Leighton and Sam Leighton.
Anita Hernandez will be Organist and Michelle Matthews will be vocalist.
