Mary Elizabeth Dye, 90, Junction City, died on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Valley View Senior Life Center. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel in Junction City. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 624 N. Jefferson St. with Pastor James Callaway officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Villa Rica, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to either the First Baptist Church, 624 N. Jefferson St., Junction City, KS 66441 or to the Gideon's International, PO Box 1351, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mary was born on September 24, 1921 to Edward and Ether (Cantrell) Lane in Villa Rica, Georgia. She attended elementary school and high school in Georgia and she spent most of her early life there.
Mary was united in marriage to William H. Dye on January 1, 1938 in Georgia. As a typical military wife, she followed William to each of his duty stations, which took her from Georgia to Europe and all the way back again. After William's retirement from the Army in 1967, they resided in California and then later moved to Mississippi. After William's death in March of 2000, Mary returned to live in Junction City, KS. She was living at Valley View Senior Life Center at the time of her death.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Junction City, KS. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Dye and wife Gail of Junction City and her daughter, Megan Rose of Villa Rica, Georgia. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Scot Dye, Darin Dye, Holly Dye Giraud, Abigail Dye Ferrari; five great-grandchildren: Caitlin and Evangeline Dye, Jana and Iris Giraud, and Ivy Ferrari; and two step great-grandsons, Nick Caudle and Daniel Dye. She is also survived by ten nephews, six nieces, and a host of grand-nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Dye and by two infant sons. Also preceding her in death were one son, Dr. Terrell Dye; by two sisters, Tommie Boyd and Sara Morgan; and by one brother, Jeremiah Lane.
