Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Elizabeth (Brabb) Tully, 89, longtime Geary County resident will be held at 10 a.m., Friday May 7, 2010 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery on McDowell Creek Road. Mary passed away April 30, 2010 after a short illness following a very long and productive life. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to the preservation of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Joseph Fund, c/o Geary County Historical Society, 530 N. Adams, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mary was born on March 29, 1921 in the Welcome Community of Wabaunsee County to Will and Elva (Sisson) Brabb. After graduating from high school in Alta Vista, KS, she attended Kansas State Agriculture College and St. Mary's School of Nursing in Manhattan, KS, graduating in 1943 as a Registered Nurse.
Mary married John E. Tully on September 16, 1943 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on McDowell Creek and raised their family for many years before moving to Tucson, AZ, then Rye, CO before returning to Kansas in 1966.
Mary worked with pride in her continuous full-time nursing profession until her retirement from Irwin Army community Hospital in 1986. She then worked part-time for several years for physicians in Manhattan.
Hobbies and travel filled Mary's off time. Sewing, knitting, quilting, painting and genealogy were always a passion. She was always ready for a trip to Ireland, Canada, or throughout the U.S. with friends and family. She was known to "winter" in AZ.
Mary is survived by her children, Jo Caryoll Porter and husband Larry of Panama, Michael Tully and his wife Teresa of Kansas City, KS, Cynthia McLeish and her husband Daniel of El Paso, TX, and Kenton Tully and his wife Jolita of Junction City, KS. Mary was blessed with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Tully; and brother, Harvey Brabb.
