Graveside services for Mary E. Syko, 89, of Junction City, KS will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2009 at Fort Riley Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo officiating. Visitation will be tonight, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. Mrs. Syko passed away at Geary Community Hospital on July 15, 2009. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, 10580 Barkley, Ste. 400, Overland Park, KS 66212.
Mrs. Syko was born May 9, 1920, Scalp Level, PA to John B. and Edna Mae (Collins) Keefer. She married SFC (Ret) Andrew G. Syko December 5, 1936 at Windber, PA. He preceded her in death March 22, 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ladies Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, John Syko of Junction City, KS and David A. Syko of FL., one daughter, Mary Lou Potts of Junction City, KS, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Edna Olson, one sister, Ursula Garretson and two brothers, Jack Keefer and Clarence Keefer.
