Mary Lois Dozier, 84, of Junction City, passed away Feb. 23, at Valley View Professional Care Center. Services will be Fri., Feb. 27, 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Savior United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Thu, Feb. 26, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Burial will be at Fort Riley Cemetery. Mary Lois was born Dec. 21, 1919 at St. Joseph, MO to Dr. E. Young and Ruth L. (Endicott) Strawn. Upon graduating from Barlett High School, where she was a member of the Junior ROTC Drill Team, Mary Lois entered college at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, MO where she received a BS degree in Home Economics in 1941. During her stay at Lincoln she was a drum majorette and interpretive dancer. Following graduation from college, Mary Lois taught factory sewing to Roosevelt era youth with National Youth Administration, disadvantaged students in St Joseph Mo, Home Economics and Physical Education in Mexico, Missouri and Rural Teacher Education, Home Economics and Physical Education at Avery Institute in Charleston, SC. She received her Master's degree in Secondary Education with a specialty in Nutrition in 1973 from Kansas State University as well as her Master's in Adult & Occupational Education with a specialty in Adult Counseling in 1977.
Mary Lois was awarded Certificates of Achievement by Major General D.H. Buchanan in 1958 and by Colonel Paul Gentry in 1980, the K-State Chapter Phi Delta Gamma Woman of the Year award in 1981, the Distinguished Community Service Award, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, 1992. She retired in January 1988 from Civil Service, Fort Riley after 30 years as EEO Specialist.
Mary Lois married Morris Dozier, Sr., Mar. 3, 1944 at Charleston, SC.
Mary Lois is survived by one son, Morris Dozier, Jr. of Junction City, one daughter, Reverend Yolonda M. Dozier of Altoona, PA, three brothers, Alex Strawn, Hampton, VA, James Strawn and Aaron Strawn both of Kansas City, MO, three sisters, Cornelia Collins, Orangeburg, SC, Zelma Whiteside, Omaha, NE, Ruth Thompson, Kansas City, MO., six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dr. Larry Strawn and Dr. Estell Strawn, Jr.
