Mary L. Ballowe, 89, of Junction City, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 at her home near Junction City, with her daughter, Sonja and her Peek-a-poo, "Precious", by her side.
Mary was born May 14, 1929 at Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of Floyd and Gladys (Leffert) Mitchell.
Mary and Thomas C. Ballowe were married May 30, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri. They moved to Fort Riley in 1966 where Mary was involved in numerous organizations including the American Red Cross.
Mary is a former local president of NARF and a member of St. Xavier of Catholic Church. She was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Thomas L. Ballowe and his wife Patricia, Green Valley, Arizona, and Craig Ballowe, Oswego, Kansas; 3 daughters, Brenda Van Hoesen and her husband Mark, Junction City, Suzetta Floberg and her husband Mardell, Milford, and Sonja Pierson, Junction City, who was Mary's caregiver for many years; 8 grandchildren, Theresa, Tina, Melissa, Lindsay, Kristen, Mardy, Brittny, and Grace; 10 great grandchildren, and her pampered pooch, "Precious".
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, July 24, 2005; her parents and 2 sisters, Betty Ortiz and Helen Redavide; daughter, Cheryl Darby, July 16, 2017 and, grandson, Douglas Darby.
A Prayer Service and Parish Rosary will be recited Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6:00 p.m., followed by family and guest visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Kyle Berens presiding. Burial will follow at Fort Riley Post Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friends Of Animals, or St. Xavier Catholic Church.
