Committal will follow immediately at the Columbarium in the Church of the Covenant. Mrs. Neale passed away October 14, 2010 at Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Mary Anne Neale née Crawford was born January 10, 1928 in Ottawa, Kansas but moved as a young girl with her parents, B.W. and Helen Crawford to Rocky Ford, Colorado. She graduated from Rocky Ford High School and continued her education in music at Colorado College of Education in Greeley, Colorado.

During her early years, she became an accomplished violinist and later performed with the Pueblo, Colorado Symphony and the Arkansas Valley, Colorado Symphony where she met the man who would later become her husband for more than 60 years, Charles Neale.

After marrying on April 5, 1950, Mary Anne and Charles moved to take teaching positions in Canon City, Colorado, where their daughter, Linda was born in 1952. Two years later they moved to Junction City, arriving on the hottest day of the year.

After returning to the academic lifestyle later in her life, Mary Anne received her B.S. in Education from Kansas State University in 1973. She immediately landed a job teaching fourth grade at Franklin School, where she stayed until her retirement in 1990. Mary Anne truly enjoyed her students and her career and was known and remembered for her "tough love" approach in the classroom.

After her retirement, Mary Anne didn't slow down much, volunteering over many years with the Literacy Council of Junction City, continuing to play violin in the orchestra for Little Theatre productions, managing St. Martin's Gate Thrift Store, and the Heartland Share/Prairieland Food program.

Church of the Covenant has been Mary Anne's spiritual home since moving to Junction City 56 years ago. She has worn many hats there over the years as a Sunday school teacher, Altar Guild member, and Vestry member. She also put her talents in sewing and cooking to work, creating most recently a banner to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the church and baking the homemade bread used in the communion services. She and Charles were designated Star Episcopalians on January 27, 2008.

She is survived by her husband Charles, their daughter Linda Palacios of Guatemala; one grandson Travis Brindel of Rock Hill, South Carolina: one sister Juanita Templeton of Rocky Ford, Colorado; siblings –in-law Barbara Haskell, Bruce Neale, and Richard Neale of Arvada, Colorado; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions go to the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Mary Anne's name, 314 N. Adams St., Junction City, KS 66441.
