Graveside services for Marvin O. Sanford, 90, of Junction City will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Mr. Sanford passed away on February 27, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be donated to the Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS or to an organization of donor's choice.
Mr. Sanford was born September 23, 1920, Ericson, NE to William O. and Bessie R. (Clary) Sanford. He served in the U S Army from 1962 to 1988 retiring as a CWO-2. He owned and operated Marvin's Gardens from 1962-1988, he was very well known for his green thumb. Marvin was more at peace with the world when he was tending his flowers.
He married Blanche S. Olden February 14, 1946, Iola, KS she preceded him in death July 8, 2001.
He is survived by his daughter Sue Penn and husband Gary of Milford, KS, two brothers; Richard "Leon" Sanford of Carson, CA and John Powell and wife Judy of Cottonwood, AZ, granddaughter, Becky Milks and husband Dennis, two great-grandchildren; Benjamin and Hannah all of Liberty, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
