The Funeral Mass for (RET) MSGT Martin J. McGuire, Jr, 80, Junction City, KS will be held at St. Xavier's Catholic Church, Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. McGuire died at his home Sunday, October 23, 2005. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with the parish rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Xavier's Catholic Foundation, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS.
He was born August 13, 1925 at Fort Riley, KS the son of Martin J. and Vurley V. (Wood) McGuire, Sr. Mr. McGuire served in the US Navy from 1943-1946 and received a Victory Medal-WW II, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Philippine Liberation Campaign Medal. In 1949 he joined the US Army and served in the Korean War. While serving in Vietnam he received a Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Medal and several Good Conduct Medals, he was honorably discharged in 1968. After his military career, he worked for Civil Service until he retired in 1983.
Mr. McGuire was a member of St. Xavier's Catholic Church and also a held a 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus.
He married Francis G. Connell, July 20, 1948 in Junction City, KS she preceded him in death December 8, 1966. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Daniel R. McGuire, and his siblings, Dennis L. McGuire, Loretta E. Byrne, Helen R. Ceden, Mary M. Gillan, Vurley V. McCallister, Marcella M. Schragg and Thomas M. McGuire and two others in infancy.
He is survived by his children, Theresa M. McGuire-Davis, Mary F. Smith, Kathleen J. Noa, and Margaret V. McGuire, all of Junction City, KS; Patricia L. Dean of Manhattan, KS; Martin James McGuire, III of Reno, NV; Sandra L. Killinger of Avis, PA; Dennis M. McGuire of Olathe, KS; John J. McGuire of Rogers, AK; Cynthia A. McGuire-Craddock of Cocoa, FL, Richard K. McGuire of Chula Vista, CA one sister, Margaret Deppish of Milford, KS; a brother, Patrick McGuire of Liverpool, CA, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tom Staib, Michael McGuire, Dustin McGuire, Chris Smith, John Paxton, Joel McGuire, Jordan McGuire and Michael Paxton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Devin Buchenau, Ben Smith, Randy Carter, Amber Spencer, Tiffany McGuire, Shanna Tilly, Eli Noa, Mark McGuire, David McGuire, Chancey Craddock, Sheila Buchenau, Katie Smith, Megan McGuire, Cindy Edwards and Donovan Edwards-Nash.
